Does The Bible Teach That
Christians Should Tithe?
The principle and practice of tithing is
the consistent act of
giving ten (10) percent of one's income
back to the Lord and His work. The
biblical pattern of tithing is always
demonstrated to the place of worship
(Deut
12), also known as God's Store
House.
The local New Testament Church like the
temple in the Old Testament has for
it's central focus the
characterizing of the
presence of God. It is consistent
to recommend the local New Testament
church as God's store house for the sake
of the Gospel for three very
important reasons…
Like the temple in the Old Testament,
The New Testament Church is God's
instrument in presenting
#1: The Work of Redemption -
Romans 1:15,16
#2: The Servants of God -
Acts 13:1,5
#3: The Presence of God -
Acts 1:8
These three attributes characterize the
local church, thus, the principle of
storehouse tithing continues into the
church age.
You will find where tithing is lacking
due to some vain argument against it...
you will find excess in ones
complicitness with the world (Mal
3:6,10). You will also find
that many believers who refuse to tithe
are in a pattern of financial debt.
This is unfortunate. Why?
Because the Gospel of the Lord Jesus
Christ is worth bringing to all the
world. This requires God's blue print
for financing His Work. The Tithe
Belongs To God (period).
What is Tithing to the Believer?
#1: It is an act of Submission -
Prov. 3:9
#2: It is an exacting of Protection
against excess -
Mal. 3:9
#3: It is a fact of growth -
Mal. 3:10
The Christian who tithes gives more than
money... They give of themselves.
Honor the LORD with thy substance,
and with the firstfruits of all thine
increase. Proverbs 3:9.
This was the financial pattern before
the law, during the law, and after
the law.
Sincerely, Dr. Arthur Belanger
