The
teenager is fortunate enough to be
reminded daily that his or her objective
in decision making is to gravitate them
to the likeness of Jesus Christ. Even as
Jesus Christ was moving into his teenage
years, it was clear that Jesus was
making very good decisions. The basis of
His decision making reflected his
submission to his parents (Luke
2:51).
The teenager who neglects submission to
their parent(s) is vulnerable by
predatory influences that encourages an
unrealistic approach to life. It does
not matter how accomplished he or she
may be. If a teenager will not submit to
their parents... they should not be
trusted by anyone. Yet, a teenager who
submits to the authority of their
parents with Christ as the incentive is
a wise teen. A wise teenager is one who
is motivated by superior values that are
biblical in nature. Daniel, Joseph and
Mary (as well as others) were far
superior than their peers because Christ
was their value in and for life. You
will find consistently that many adult
Christians who neglected submission to
their parents as teens are prone to
nurse an indifference to spiritual and
secular authorities. It is extremely
rare when this is reversed.
Watch those teens who respect their
parents and other authorities. Observe
those who respond with "Yes sir/mam" and
"No sir/mam". Note those who obey right
away and restrain fleshly resistance and
selfish inclinations. These are the
teens with a superior testimony. In due
season... God will exalt them as a
glowing testimony of His Glory.
Sincerely, Dr. Arthur Belanger
