The Christ And His Word- vs.18,20
As
we observed these important verses, it
is very obvious that the
reality of discipleship (the
practice of learning and obeying)
is born from the supernatural work of
the Holy Spirit on the inward man (Romans
7:22;
John 14:17). More essential
than doing right is being right.
Salvation is not just eternal
life... as much as it is internal life.
The objective of discipleship is
righteousness inwardly flowing outwardly
(Psalm
23:3;
Ephesians 5:9).
Discipleship
is not the perfection of our human
nature... no believer can be righteous
and holy by do's and don'ts alone.
It is Christ in us working His will in
and through us (Hebrews
13: 20,21). Yielding to the
ambition of the indwelling Holy Spirit
is the only form of discipleship that is
blessed of God as was demonstrated by
John's readiness to obey the Lord while
under very difficult circumstances.
