Fear
is one of the most gripping emotions you
wil
l
experience. Most of us can remember a
time when fear took control of our
thoughts. Many of the men and women of
the Bible struggled with the same
problem. Yet, the solution to fear is
always the same. Overcoming fear will
not be realized in a lasting way by
virtue of a positive self-talk or a
greater effort to control our behavior
or the behavior of others. The solution
is a broken humility and trust in the
Sovereign, engaged and loving God.
The
world of fear lives in an enslaving
prison of questions: What if? How will
it? Will it? Who will? Why now? When
will? How much? How long? How far? How
can? Jesus understands
your fear and your
wrestling with uncertainty and yet, He
is a friend that sticks closer than a
brother. The friendship we possess with
Christ is keenly important to every
aspect of life. Especially in those
moments when we fail or sin. Christ as
our friend does not demand that we
redeem ourselves from our failures and
sin. Simply repent and receive the
certainty of His ever-lasting
friendship. Christ as our friend does
not leave us when we sin; He loves
us out of our sin (Proverbs
3:11,12). What a friend we have in
Jesus! Amen.
