Matthew Chapter Five

Divine Education
 

Chapter Five records the longest sermon given by Christ and demonstrates that the life of a disciple of Jesus Christ is to be full of glory and grace.  Spiritual character is born from divine education.  It is impossible to be godly with out God.  It is reckless to suggest that we can be spiritual apart from being scriptural. 

The Internal Check - vs.1,
1. A Repentance Attitude - vs.3,6
2. A Respectful Attitude - vs.7,9
3. A Responsive Attitude - vs.10
4. A Rejoicing Attitude - vs.11,12

The External Check - vs.13,16
1. Bringing Preservation - vs.13 - Salt
2. Bringing Observation - vs.14,16 - Light
Simply put, we are to be obvious... not oblivious.

The Eternal Check - vs.17,48,
1. The Word of God - vs.17,20
a. The Word of God Fulfilled - vs.17,18
b. The Word of God Fulfills - vs.19,20

2. The Wording of God - vs.21,48
a. On Anger - vs.21,26
b. On Adultery - vs.27,32
c. On Answering - vs.33,37
d. On Acting - vs.38,48

In summary, the Christian who is yeilded to Christ not only believes God,  they are believable about God.
