First
Corinthians
Chapter
Two:
On A Hill Stood An Old Rugged Cross
The mission of furthering the gospel of
Christ is the very soul of our
responsibility as Christians (Matthew
28:19.20). All else is vain when we
neglect this emphatic cry of God's Word.
Grace is diminished, holiness
languishes, and churchanity led by good
intentions takes center stage over the
power of the Gospel, where the person
and the work of Christ are counted only
as a partial solution. As believers, we
must have a biblical determination and
declaration that emphasizes the theme of
God's Word... The Old Rugged
Cross.
I. Paul's Determination - vs.1-4
a. His Determined Speech- vs.1,4
<> Not A Worldly Speech - vs.vs.1;3,4a
<> But A Worthy Speech - vs.2;4b
Note His Speech In Matter - vs.2
Note His Speech In Manner - vs.3
b. His Determined Reach - vs.5,7
A Reach For Faith - vs.5
A Reach For Faithfulness - vs.6,7
II. Paul's Declaration - vs.8,16
a. He Declares The World's Ignorance -
vs.8,9
b. He Declares The Work Of Inspiration -
vs.10
c. He Declares The Word Of Instruction -
vs.11,16
Note: The Instruction That Reveals
Difference - vs.12,13
Note: The Instruction That Reveals
Indifference - vs.14
Note: The Instruction That Reveals
Reverence - vs.15,16
How we should be moved by the persuasion
of the indwelling Holy Spirit, that the
Lord Jesus Christ, the Lamb slain,
should be aggressively and passionately
preached through the length and breadth
of this great land of death and
deception. Chapter two demands how this
must happen? When the heart and habits
of the local New Testament Church should
more manifestly crown Christ Jesus Lord
of all and no longer count there own
lives dear unto themselves.
This is a great chapter that cries for
our meditation.
Sincerely, Dr. Arthur Belanger
