Overcoming Temptation
2 Corinthians 10:3-6
There
wi
ll
always be temptations vying for our
hearts. Sometimes they are subtle
and sometimes they are obvious. Though
we are not free from temptations; we are
free from the bondage it breeds.
The devil will often use fiery darts
that consume (as fire does) our
mind. These fiery darts come in the form
of: a lie, a thought of rejection, wrong
doctrine, a deprecating
thought, etc. The classic symptom
that a Believer has yielded to
temptation is: discouragement.
So
much of what tempts us is what we allow
to tempt us. This is why Jesus said:
watch and pray that ye enter not into
temptation (Matthew 26:41a). As
we habitually pray and hide the Word of
God in our hearts, we become
increasingly sensitive to the vices of
the devil and the world that would tempt
us to act contrary to the will of God.
Purposefully lay aside everything that
competes with your affection and
devotion for Christ. This is a matter of
discipline. After all: Jesus Christ is
all that matters. AMEN!
Sincerely, Dr. Arthur Belanger
