Were The Sons Of God Angels Or Human?

Dear Dr. Belanger,

Could you expound on the sons of God in Genesis 6:4. Some say they were the angels spoken of in Jude 6, while Matt. 22:30 states against marriage of angels. Others teach that they descended from Seth's lineage. Your website has been a blessing and help to my ministry. May God continue to bless, if He tarries. Even so, Come Lord Jesus.

Answer:

The "sons of God" noted in Genesis 6:4 is a direct reference to the godly line of Seth. They intermarried with the daughters from the ungodly line of Cain which resulted in God's judgment upon the world.

We know that these were not angels. For Jesus made very clear that angels, (both evil and good) do not marry or give in marriage (Note Matt. 22:30).

What we note in verse 4 is the tragedy of being unequally yoked together with unbelievers. It never works. I hope this gives you something to work with as you search the scriptures on this matter.
