What
is Amillennialism?
Is it biblically
correct?
Amillennialism
is the teaching that there is no
literal
1000 year reign of Christ as referenced
in Revelation 20. It sees the 1000 year
period spoken of in Revelation 20 as
figuratively. Instead, it teaches that we
are in the millennium now, and that at
the return of Christ there will be
the final judgment and the heavens and
the earth will then be destroyed and
remade. The Amillennial view meets with
strong reproof from the Bible. It is
born out of incorrect biblical
interpretation.
Certainly,
there will be a millennial when Christ
will reign for one thousand years on
earth. The millennial reign of Christ
will mean the restoration of Israel with
the reign of Christ accepted and
appreciated by Israel. This cannot
happen without Christ return to
institute His reign. Obviously, Israel
continues her rejection of Christ. This
is why there will be a time known as
The
Great Tribulation when God will judge
the nations of the world beginning with
Israel that will result in a redeemed
remnant ushered into the millennial.
The redeemed
(both Jew and Gentile) who
go from the tribulation into the kingdom
age will still have human bodies. During
which, they will produce children and
dramatically increase the population on
the earth (see
Jeremiah 30:19-22;
Ezekiel 47:22). Although those
brought into the millennial are sealed
by the covenant and their sins are
forgiven, their offspring will be born
with a sin nature since they are still
physical descendents of Adam. This
explains a number of things about the
kingdom age. It will require the full
enforcement of the law of the kingdom as
seen in Matthew 5-7. Even with this
strict enforcement, nations will at
times rebel and will need to be brought
into line by the withholding of rain (Zechariah
14:16-19). Christ as king will rule
with a rod of iron (Psalm
2:7-9). And, finally, at the end of
the millennial age the devil will be
able to gather an immense army of rebels
against the Lord (Revelation
20:7-9). Obviously, they will be
deceived into thinking that they will
subdue and even destroy Christ and His
kingdom.
