                        Is Alcoholics Anonymous Biblical?

Bill Wilson, a co-founder of AA was himself an alcoholic. Wilson's habit of drunkard ness had ruined his career, damaged his health, and caused agonizing pain and worry to his family and friends. Born from this experience was Alcoholics Anonymous, one of history's most important social movements that has substituted the preaching of God's Word as a means of reformation over salvation.     AA has in many ways been a tremendous asset to society as a whole.  However, it should not be looked on as a substitute or authority for God's will of salvation..

Note what motivated Bill Wilson:
Quote:
I consider the AA people to be the most cha
rming in the world. ... They have found a power greater than themselves which they serve diligently. And that gives them a charm that never was elsewhere on land and sea. It makes you know that God Himself is really charming, because the AA people reflect His mercy and His forgiveness.
... when they have found their restoration, their sense of humor finds a blessed freedom, and they are able to reach a god-like state ...

Herein lies why AA is so dangerous. While motivated by good intentions, it neglects the need of salvation by grace. AA is just another religious movement that may prevent people from going to jail... it cannot save one soul from hell.

You will find that much of the language used in the AA Twelve Step Program is contrary to the Bible. Here are some examples that you will consistently hear amongst the AA culture:

Please note: each quote comes from what AA calls the "BIG BOOK". They are not speaking of the Bible. You will note, after each quote, I have provided a biblical perception in bold capitalization. The quotes you are about to read are but a fraction of the language heard in the AA culture.

"Fake it until you make it." NO..NO..NO..! FAKES DON'T MAKE IT. (
Romans 3:23)

"God is a Group Of Drunks." NO! GOD IS HOLY.

"Alcoholics Anonymous requires no beliefs." NO! AA INSPIRES AND ADMIRES FALSE BELIEF.

"It's Our Way or the Die Way." WRONG! CHRIST IS THE ONLY WAY. (
John 14:6)

"Expect a miracle." AND THEN WHAT?

"The Twelve Steps are but suggestions only." NOT THE BIBLE... IT'S ABSOLUTE.

"Work the Steps, Or Die!" NO! YOU ARE DEAD.  (
Ephesians 2:5)

"The surest way to AA is to first go all the way to hell." ONLY ONE PROBLEM WITH THAT... THERES NO RETURN FROM HELL.

"Recovery Is a Journey, Not a Destination." NO! RECOVERY IS A JOURNEY TO DAMNATION. (
Proverbs 14:12)

"Another Friend of Bill W's." NO! A FRIEND OF JESUS.

"When all else fails, listen to your sponsor." NO! LISTEN TO JESUS BECAUSE ALL ELSE IS A FAILURE.

"Believe In God Or Be God." NO! BELIEVE GOD BECAUSE YOU CAN'T BE GOD.

"When man listens, God speaks." NO! GOD SPOKE! YOU BETTER LISTEN (
Hebrews 1:1,2)

"This Is A Selfish Program." AMEN!

It is very obvious that AA is not the Way to and of God. When a drunkard is saved from sin, he is no longer an alcoholic, he is a Christian. The Holy Spirit lives in him and enables him to overcome temptations.  AA IS A FALSE  MANDATE TO SAVE ONE'S SELF FOR SELF. WE PREACH JESUS CHRIST... THE ONLY HELP AND HOPE FOR  HUMANITY.

Sincerely, Pastor Belanger
