Second Corinthians - Chapter One - The Word of Comfort

I. Comfort Experienced - vs.1,7
A. Comfort Is Realized In The WILL Of God - vs.1

B. Comfort Is Received By The WILLINGNESS Of God - vs.2,3
Note God's Graciousness - vs.2 ...Grace be...
Note God's Greatness - vs.3,4 ...the God of ALL comfort...

God's Graciousness and Greatness Assures Us Of:
1. He Resides With Us - vs.4a ...Who comforteth us...
2. He Confides Through Us - vs.4b ...we may be able to comfort them...
3. He Abides In Us - vs.5 ...sufferings of Christ abound in us...
4. He Tried Us - vs.6,7 ...whether we be afflicted...

II. Comfort Explained - vs.8,24
a. Paul's Tribulation - vs.8

b. Paul's Jubilation - vs.9,11
Note His Dependence Upon God - vs.9
Note His Deliverance By God - vs.10,11

c. Paul Is Honest - vs.12,18
About His Motive - vs.12
About His Message - vs.13
About His Manners - vs.14
About His Mind - vs.15
About His Movement - vs.16
About His Mouth - vs.17
About His Master - vs.18

d. Jesus Is Honored - vs.19,24
By His Servants - vs.19,21
By His Spirit - vs.22
That We May Understand - vs.23
That We May Stand - vs.24

Paul's emphasis is that there must come upon our hearts the sense of God's divine presence and power. The Holy presence of God must be considered the only exercise that assures comfort (Joshua 1:9). Any other consideration is certain to abandon us to the wasteland of fear.
