Obedience - The Winning Edge
OBEDIENCE IS TRUSTING GOD WITH THE
CONSEQUENCES OF HIS WILL ACKNOWLEDGED IN
OUR LIFE.
ELIJAH FITS THE BILL.
I. ELIJAH WAS A COMMON MAN
a. His Home - This verse tells us
that Elijah was from a place called
Tishbe in the region known as
Gilead.
b. His Humanity - We are given an
interesting insight into the prophet
Elijah in the book of
James Chapter 5:17,18
II. ELIJAH WAS A COURAGEOUS MAN
a. He Defied A Foolish Ruler - It
takes courage to defy the wicked.
b. He Denounced A False Religion
- Baal was the Canaanite god of
fertility. When Elijah made his
announcement, he was declaring war on
Baal.
III. ELIJAH WAS A COMMITTED MAN
a. His Designation - His very
name tells us his testimony. The name
Elijah means "My
God Is Jehovah". His
designation was to always focus on the
Glory Of God.
1Corinthians. 10:31
b. His Determination - By walking
into the presence of Ahab and Jezebel in
the name of Jehovah, Elijah was
demonstrating that He is determined to
follow through.
c. His Dedication - The phrase
Elijah used : ...before Whom I
stand... Referring to the Lord.
IV. ELIJAH WAS A CONFIDENT MAN
a. In The Person Of God -
Note that Elijah believed that God was
alive. He said, "as the Lord God of
Israel liveth."
b. In The Power Of God - Look at
James 5:17-18.
c. In The Promise Of God - Elijah
had enough sense to know that when God
told him something was going to happen,
it would happen.
V. ELIJAH WAS A CONCLUSIVE MAN
a. You Can Be Sure Of God / vs.1a
...as the Lord God of…
b. You Can Be Sure With God / vs.1b …liveth…
Job 19:25 For I know that my redeemer
liveth,
c. You Can Be Sure About God / vs.1c ...there
shall not...
BOTTOM LINE: OBEDIENCE WILL COST
US MUCH. DIS-OBEDIENCE WILL COST
US THE MOST.
